Radiator issues | Fox Acura of El Paso in El Paso, TX

5 Warning Signs Your Car Needs a Radiator Repair

If you've ever lifted the hood of your vehicle after you've driven it for a while, you know how hot your engine gets. To prevent your vehicle's engine from overheating, the radiator sends coolant through it and keeps it at a constant temperature. However, if the radiator malfunctions and the engine overheats, you could be looking at major (and expensive) repairs. Know the warning signs that your car needs a radiator repair to avoid a more serious situation. more Your Car Overheats This is, of course, the most obvious sign of a radiator issue, and if your engine is overheating, you need to stop driving it immediately and allow it to cool down. The sign of an overheated engine is white steam pouring from under the hood. If you continue driving while your car is overheating, you could cause the engine to seize or the piston to melt and fuse with the cylinder, meaning you'll need a new engine. Your Temperature Gauge Climbs On your dashboard instrument panel, there's a temperature gauge that typically indicates your engine's temperature is about midway between cold and hot after your car has warmed up. It should never climb above the middle unless something is wrong. If your temperature gauge needle is climbing toward the hot end of the gauge - get your radiator inspected immediately. You might just need more coolant, but you don't want to cause any permanent damage by driving it while overheated. Your Radiator Shows Signs of Rust The radiator in your car is made of metal, so if it comes into prolonged contact with moisture, it will rust. If you see rust on your radiator, it's possible that there is a leak in the radiator hose or in the radiator itself. The leak allows the coolant to squirt out of the hole and onto the radiator. Even though the fluid will burn off quickly due to the heat, it will leave moisture spots that will rust. You See Colorful Fluid Leaking From Your Car Coolant is usually brightly colored, so if you notice a bright green, yellow, or pink fluid under your car, you probably have a coolant leak. Again, this could be from the radiator hose or the radiator itself, but it needs to be addressed before all your coolant leaks out and your car overheats. Not only this, but coolant is what prevents your engine from freezing up in the winter - so it's not just something that's important in hot weather. Your Coolant Levels Are Low You should be checking your coolant level (and that of other fluids) regularly, which can alert you of problems if the level is low. While you'll see a pool of colorful fluid on the ground if you have an external leak, the only indication of an internal coolant leak is a lower-than-normal level of coolant. Add an adequate amount of coolant to your radiator, but also bring it in to a service center soon to find and repair the leak. These five signs of a radiator problem will give you an early indication that you need to get your vehicle into a service center right away for a radiator inspection. If you've noticed any of these issues, contact Fox Acura of El Paso for an appointment and we'll get you back on the road in no time!

5 Signs It's Time to Make an Acura Service Appointment

While many drivers already know that it is of utmost importance to regularly service their vehicles, some solely depend on their cars' mileage to tell them when it's time for a service appointment. Apart from the scheduled appointments, there are some tell-tale signs that your vehicle will give to let you know that it is time to make an Acura service appointment. 1. If Oil is Dark or Levels Are Low One way to tell it's time for vehicle service is by visually checking the oil level. By taking a few moments now and then to check your oil, you can know how much of it is left. The dipstick measurements will help you gauge if you need an Acura service appointment or not. more Also, checking the color of the oil can tell you if it needs changing. There can be enough oil left, but if it is dark, this is a sign that you need to have it changed. The color of clean oil is amber and transparent. A dark and cloudy appearance on the oil is a green light for a service appointment. 2. If the Engine Becomes Too Noisy An engine makes noises; that is a fact. But these noises in excess mean that all is not well under the hood. The vehicle's oil provides a thin protective layer to the engine parts such that when they move, they do not come into direct contact with each other. When the oil becomes worn out, or there is not enough of it, the oil can no longer do its job effectively. When this happens, you will start to hear loud noises from the engine caused by grinding and knocking of the engine parts to each other. To prevent more complex repairs in the future, you should make a quick service appointment with an Acura dealership shop. 3. Excess Exhaust Smoke The exhaust pipe back there is expected to emit some little translucent vapor. However, you should be very concerned when the tailpipe starts coughing out excessive or colored smoke. This could mean a series of problems – it could be the oil is leaking or there are some faulty engine parts. This is a sign that you need a service appointment. 4. Excessive Fuel Consumption Have you noticed a change in your gas mileage? While various aspects of your vehicle may explain the poor fuel economy, all of them point towards a problem with your car that needs to be addressed. When your car is running on old or insufficient oil, that means the engine is not getting enough lubrication. To produce the same performance you are used to, the engine will have to work extra hard; that performance will mean excessive gas consumption. Schedule a service with your nearest Acura dealership to have the oil checked, and your vehicle serviced. See if the fuel economy improves. One of these signs is enough reason for you to schedule a service visit to have your vehicle checked. Contact Fox Acura of El Paso today to schedule your car service appointment. Museum exhibit | Fox Acura of El Paso in El Paso, TX

Uncover the Past at the El Paso Museum of History

Located in downtown El Paso, the El Paso Museum of History contains 44,000 square feet of fascinating historical exhibitions. It covers the past 400 years of American history, focusing on the United States/Mexico border region, also known as The Pass of the North. For the past 46 years, the museum and its curators have been committed to the historical and cultural education of its many visitors – and though currently closed, are looking forward to reopening as soon as it is safe to do so. History of the El Paso Museum of History The museum was established in 1974 as a cavalry museum. It contained detailed exhibits about America's history with horses and was certainly a must-see for horse lovers. However, it soon became apparent that the museum's scope extended far beyond equestrian matters. The museum was rich in historical information, and so in 1980, its name was officially changed to the El Paso Museum of History. more In the year 2000, the museum got the approval for $6.5 million in funding for a new building - one that would be worthy of the museum's content. The new building was credited with "helping rejuvenate downtown El Paso." Exhibits The museum contains two permanent exhibits: El Paso A-to-Z and Changing Pass. There’s also a great deal of space set aside for temporary exhibits. A recent exhibition was Power of the Southwest: 120 Years of the El Paso Chamber of Commerce, which highlighted the Chamber's role in local and national history. Another was Tracks Across the Desert: More Than 100 Years of Railroad in El Paso, which explored the role the railroad played in shaping modern-day El Paso. El Paso A-to-Z Though spatially quite small, there is a wealth of information to be found in this permanent exhibit. It contains a large number of artifacts as well as an impressive, real-life model of one of the original steam cars. Changing Pass: People, Land & Memory This is the first exhibition that visitors are greeted with when they walk through the door. It provides comprehensive information about the El Paso del Norte region, beginning with the early indigenous settlers and concluding with the 20th century ASARCO. Through artifacts, interactive displays, and text panels, visitors learn how the many social, cultural, political, religious, and environmental factors of years gone by have come to define El Paso. Digital Wall When it was implemented in February of 2015, this state-of-the-art digital wall, known as 'Digie', was the first of its kind in the United States. The wall is made up of five 95 inch touch screens, offering a three-dimensional, interactive view of El Paso as it was at various points of history, going back to the late 1600s. Users can interact with the wall by touching the images to extract information, or just by searching for points of interest. When it comes to the United States/Mexico border region, this museum is a historical gold mine. Lots to read, lots to look at, and plenty of interaction to make things all the more exciting – learn something new today!

Acura SUV Comparison: Should You Get the 2020 MDX or RDX?

We could say that Acura is in a class by itself. With that in mind, perhaps the best competition for an Acura SUV is another Acura. Two of their best models in 2020 were the RDX and the MDX, so let's compare the two to learn a little more about the best of the SUV market. Engine Comparison The RDX features a turbocharged 2.0 Liter four-cylinder engine, which gets you 272 horsepower and 280 foot-pounds of torque. It can get up to 28 miles per gallon on the highway and comes in either front or four-wheel drive. more The MDX gives you a bit more options for the engine and offers a hybrid variation. The hybrid engine is a 3.0 Liter V6 engine with all-wheel drive and generates 321 horsepower, it is paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. The gas engine is a 3.5L that gets 290 horsepower and is available in both front and all-wheel drive. It is paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission featuring a sequential sport shift. Capability The MDX features a more powerful engine and is by far the better at towing. The MDX can tow up to 5,000 pounds compared to the RDX, which only tows 1,500. Value Both cars give you a lot for your money, But the RDX is a little friendlier on your wallet, starting at $37,800 and going up to $47,900. The MDX is more of a luxury vehicle and starts at $44,500 up to $60,250 if you want all the bells and whistles. The RDX is also slightly more efficient than the MDX, getting you an extra mile out of each gallon of gas. Interior Both cars feature luxurious interiors, with all leather seating and a 12-way power-adjustable driver's seat with power lumbar support. Your back is going to feel great on long drives no matter which one you choose. Heated and ventilated front seats are available on some trim levels on both models, so your seat is the perfect temperate all year round. The RDX does go one better here with available heated rear seats. When it comes to space, the MDX is head and shoulders above the RDX, with three rows of seating for up to seven passengers, while the RDX seats five. And when it comes to cargo volume, the MDX features a cavernous 90.0 cubic feet of space compared to the RDX which has 79.8. Technology The RDX gives plenty of tech features, with dual-zone climate control and Bluetooth capability. It features a premium sound system, with 9-16 speakers depending on your trim level. It's got plenty of screens to keep you connected, with a 10.2-inch touchscreen, seven-inch multi informational display, and an available 10.5-inch heads up display. The MDX, surprisingly, is in some ways not as advanced technologically. It does feature tri-zone climate control, giving each row its own temperature. However, the touch screen is slightly smaller at eight inches, and there is no heads-up display. The speakers max out at 12. It does feature a very nice 16.2-inch rear entertainment system, perfect for watching movies from the rear seats. So if you're looking for a capable luxury SUV, the RDX may be your choice. But if you want a top of the line performance machine, you'll want the MDX. Decide for yourself by test driving both today at Fox Acura. Image via acura.com
