Trim Levels

Instead of offering multiple trim levels, the 2020 Acura MDX has one trim with several package options where you can add extra features. There's also a hybrid version available with the Sport Hybrid. Acura offers a Technology Package, which includes GPS-linked climate control and additional safety features; an A-Spec Package, which adds leather and other styling upgrades; and an Advance Package, which has second-row captain's chairs and a surround-view camera. On the exterior, the MDX has nine color options, with four of them considered premium colors.

Engine

The 2020 Acura MDX only offers one engine option, and it's a solid choice that works well for both city and highway driving. It's a 290-horsepower V-6 3.5-liter engine that produces 267 pound-feet of torque. It's paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission. The vehicle comes standard with front-wheel drive, but with an upgrade you'll receive the Super-Handling All-Wheel Drive (SH-AWD) system. This system comes standard on the hybrid, which has a 3.0-liter V-6 engine that produces 321 horsepower and 289 pound-feet of torque.

Performance

Having one of the best fuel economies in its class, the base MDX achieves an estimated 20 miles per gallon in the city and 27 mpg on the highway. With the A-Spec Package, the mileage decreases to 19 mpg in the city and 25 mpg in the city. All other models that have SH-AWD attain an EPA-estimated 19 mpg in the city and 26 mpg in the city. The Sport Hybrid earns an EPA-combined fuel economy rating of 27 mpg. Also, when properly equipped, the Acura MDX can tow up to 5,000 pounds.

Interior

The 2020 Acura MDX seats either six or seven people, depending on if you select the second-row captain's chairs or the standard second-row bench. The front seats offer plenty of support and space as do the second-row seats. However, if you have third-row seating, then — like others in its class — the seat only works well for children.

The base trim comes standard with a moonroof, heated front seats, an eight-speaker audio system, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, six USB ports, and a dual-screen infotainment display. Available upgrades include HD radio, voice-recognition software, a rear-seat entertainment system with wireless headphones, and additional speakers for the audio system.

For cargo space, the MDX has almost 15 cubic feet of space. If you fold down the second and third rows, you gain almost 68 cubic feet of space.

Safety Features

When it comes to safety, the 2020 Acura MDX comes with three full sets of LATCH car-seat connectors. The vehicle also comes standard with AcuraWatch, which includes a suite of safety features: adaptive cruise control, a rearview camera, forward collision warning, road departure mitigation, and more. Other upgrades available include front and rear parking sensors, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert.
