Car battery | FOX Acura of El Paso in El Paso, TXVehicles require a new car battery approximately every 3 to 4 years. Visit your Acura dealership when you require a new battery – we’d be more than happy to replace it for you! Look out for the signs that you need a new battery, as you never know when your current battery will fail.

1. Your Engine Starts Slowly

Your battery’s components break down over time. This leads to them becoming less effective as the battery ages. At a certain point, your battery will no longer be able to start your vehicle as quickly as it once did. When you notice that your start times have gotten longer, then you should visit your dealership for a new battery.

2. You Experience Electrical Issues

Your battery supplies the power to all of the electrical components in your vehicle. Malfunctioning electronics is a sign that your battery is failing. The malfunction could be anything from a radio that won’t switch on to strangely dim headlights.
You should also get your alternator checked when you’re having this issue. Your alternator is the part that charges your battery, and if it’s not charging your battery adequately, then your battery can’t power your electronics sufficiently. Your alternator may be at fault, and your battery might be fine. Get both checked out to be safe.

3. Your Check Engine Light Switches On

Your check engine light switches on for various reasons – one of which is when your battery is getting ready to fail on you. When your check engine light comes on, visit your dealership and get an engine diagnostic. The engine diagnostic will uncover any issues going on in your vehicle, including a faulty battery.

4.  An Unpleasant Smell

If you smell rotten eggs in your vehicle, then check under the hood. if the smell gets stronger when you pop the hood, then your battery is most likely leaking. This is the result of battery damage or an internal short.

5. Corroded Connectors

You should frequently visually inspect the parts of your vehicle to ensure they look like they’re in good condition. You may notice an ashy substance clinging to the metal components of your battery. This means that you’re having an issue with corrosion. This issue can lead to problems with voltage, and that leads to trouble starting your vehicle.

6. Your Battery Case Is Misshapen

Extreme heat and cold can harm your battery case. They may cause it to warp, swell, crack, and more. Your battery case should always be rectangular and not swollen. If it looks abnormal, then it most likely isn’t going to work the way it should.

7. You Don’t Remember the Last Time You Had a Battery Replacement

If you don’t remember the last time your battery was replaced, then you most likely need a replacement soon, if not now. It may have been far too long since your last battery change.
