The answer is: anytime! With trails, events, local wildlife, art, history, and more, there is something to do at any time of the year. You’ll never be bored when you visit this memorial! Let’s take a look at some of the diverse activities Chamizal has to offer.

Outdoor Fun

Chamizal offers a unique Ranger Program. Join a ranger for a walk to learn more about the history of Chamizal and how it influenced the nation – a great choice for school field trips or family outings.
Enjoy the beautiful trails and green space for a lovely stroll or a bike ride. Pack up a picnic and stay for a spell. Nothing beats chilling out under one of the 9 covered picnic tables on a sunny afternoon! Day time isn’t the only time to enjoy a visit to the memorial: at nighttime in the summer, you can experience Music Under the Stars. These concerts typically run from June through August.

Indoor Activities

When the winter months come to Texas, there are lots of indoor activities to participate in. Check out a Chamizal Theater Production in the indoor theater. With a performance almost every weekend, the 500 seat theater will transport you to a different time, culture, and history.
You can also visit Franklin G. Smith Gallery for a compelling view into a new culture with gorgeous art styles that reflect resolution and hope. If you enjoy learning about the past, stop by the museum to find out all about the rich history of Chamizal. While you’re at it, your little one can become a junior ranger!  Ask about the Junior Ranger Zone.

Chamizal National Memorial Animals

Have you been wishing for an adventure out in the wild? Chamizal might just have what you’re looking for. Whether you’re a birder or more interested in the scaled or furry bunch, there are animals in abundance. The memorial has been a known spot for native ring-tailed cats to frequent.
If you’re lucky you can see a bat, a spotted skunk, or a mouflon sheep. If you’re looking for more of a feathery friend, keep your eyes peeled for a Great Horned Owl, a Cactus Wren, or even a Red-Tailed Hawk. There are lots of animal friends to see but be careful and keep your distance: wild animals are still wild and should be respected.

Chamizal is a beautiful memorial to hope, democracy, and harmony, and an excellent choice to visit any time of year. Be sure to check their website for admittance details and to ensure the options you’re interested in are available. Once there, enjoy the diverse activities and displays to create awesome new memories!
