Acura ADAS stands for Advanced Driver Assistance System, and it’s installed in every Acura vehicle. The system is known as AcuraWatch and utilizes sophisticated technology to make driving safer by warning you of potential dangers you might not have spotted. We want to tell you more about some of the features of this technology and how it protects you.
Acura ADAS: Leading the Way in Advanced Safety Technology
Forward Collision Warning (FCW)
This feature utilizes cameras and radar to track any vehicle in front of you. The system computes the distance between your front bumper and any vehicle ahead of you and then accounts for the speed of both vehicles. If FCW detects a potential collision situation, it provides audio and visual warnings to enable you to take corrective action.
Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS)
This system works with FCW and is activated if you don’t respond fast enough to the warnings. The CMBS will automatically apply the brakes to prevent a collision or slow your vehicle enough to reduce the damage from an accident if stopping in time isn’t possible.
Lane Departure Warning (LDW)
When you’re driving, it’s often easy to slightly stray from your lane. This can be dangerous, especially on the highway when all vehicles are moving at high speed. Some drivers won’t react fast enough, and this can result in an accident. LDW identifies the lane lines and will sound and display warnings if your vehicle’s wheels move across the lines unintentionally.
Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS)
LKAS works to keep your vehicle within the lines at all times. It uses a camera and line recognition system to keep your car centered in its lane at all times. If the system determines that you’re unintentionally moving out of your lane, it warns you. LKAS then activates the steering to gently direct your vehicle back toward the center of the lane. LKAS won’t activate if you intentionally turn to enter another lane.
Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC)
ACC is an advanced cruise control that uses a camera and radar to track the distance to any vehicle ahead of you. It then adjusts your vehicle’s speed to keep you a safe distance behind the other vehicle.
Traffic Jam Assist (TJA)
This technology is included or available for many Acura models and helps to control your vehicle in a potential traffic jam situation. It operates at speeds of 45 mph or less and provides steering assistance or can bring your vehicle to a stop to prevent an accident.
