Acura Type S | Fox Acura of El Paso in El Paso, TXAcura, as a brand, once dominated the performance image. In 2015 they started the process of coming back into the limelight with their second-generation NSX, and in 2016 they brought forth the Precision Concept luxury sedan. In 2017 and 2018, they produced the IMSA GTD and Prototype, respectively. They have now outdone themselves by introducing the Acura Type S Concept.

All About the Type S Concept

The new Type S Concept, which was introduced during the Monterey car week, seems to be setting the pace for a more performance-minded production of Acura’s. Jon Ikeda, Acura’s vice president, said they were moving towards a more youthful and energetic design, premiered by the Type S Concept, whose goal is to prove the ‘Precision-Crafted Performance’ as the fundamental quality.

The Type S Concept resembles the next generation TLX mid-size sedan, but the Type S has a transversely mounted engine and longer dash-to-axle ratio. Acura is also set to bring back the Type S badge of the 2000s that was previously done on the RSX, GL, and TL performance versions. There’s hope that a turbocharged V-6 will be in place, which would be similar to the engine used in the Acura NSX that’s been de-electrified – or a new engine altogether.

The uniqueness of the Type S Concept

The Type S Concept car looks stylish and classic with its distinctive blue color, known as ‘Double Apex Blue’. Its design is elegant, sleek, and electric; guaranteed to get your attention. The forged carbon fiber trim gives it a better visual texture than the traditional carbon elements. Its contoured flanks, wide stance, low roof, and long hood project power. Acura’s design has the sense of performance nailed with their open-surface diamond pentagram grille, large air-intakes below the headlights, and four LED lamp headlights.

The short rear deck, a large inlet in the front deck, and long hood give the Type S its classic sporty look. Acura achieved their performance-inspired goal with the Brembo four Piston yellow brake calipers in every corner of the 21-inch wheels. At the front, you’ll find a small tame grille surrounded by bold vents. The side vents are similar to the NSX – but unique to itself are the Jewel-Eye LED headlights.

The signature Chicane light is influenced by the ARX-05 Daytona prototype car. A daring crease that looks like that of the Precision Concept runs from the front wheel to the rear end. The back diffuser and decklid spoiler have forged carbon that goes well with the forged carbon splitter. The back of the car has neat lines, matching chicane taillights and headlights, and quad chrome exhaust outlets, providing a sporty and legendary appearance.

Acura is a pacesetter when it comes to luxurious cars and competitive sporty race cars. The Type S Concept will go beyond their set Precision-Crafted Performance to set a world standard of high-level performance cars. The set time for the unveiling of Type S is expected to be in a year, as a 2021 model.
